5 Mistakes On Social Media That Can Make You Unhappy
Internet is so popular that it is being counted as basic amenities these days for most people. But what do we all do on the internet? Millions of purposes are behind internet usage; some use it for business, some for learning, and some for social interaction.
Social interaction? Yes, social media, a crucial part of the internet, has become the primary platform for social interactions. A plethora of social media platforms are there, and they all allow us to connect with others across the globe.
Providing the opportunity for social interaction, can we say that social media is helping us live a happy life? No. Not everyone on social media is living a happy life, and I came to know this when I read some articles on mental health; I was stunned to learn that social media was one of the reasons behind unhappiness, anxiety, depression among the majority of the people.
Uncover The Reality
I’m not saying that social media is bad or don’t use social media. But there are some factors affecting mental health on social media. Following are some things you should avoid doing on social media to stay happy. After this, I’ll let you know how to detox from social media side effects.
1. The Show Off Biz
The first mistake that most people make is unnecessary showing off on social media. There is nothing terrible about posting something about your life on social media. But when you are doing it for just a show-off, it will make you unhappy.
There are a plethora of such incidents we have seen in this show-off biz. Some people go bankrupt due to show off, and some commit criminal activities to fulfill their show off biz, and ultimately they turn up being unhappy.
2. The Expectation Game
Posting photos of you and your belongings on social media is fine, but expecting more likes & comments can make you anxious. In some cases, people killed themselves just because they didn’t receive enough likes on their social media posts.
I call this an expectation game, and it can hit you in many ways. Some people follow others on Instagram and expect a follow back, and some expect enough likes.
3. The Comparison Trap
If the show-off biz is so popular, it is evident that the comparison trap is also there to interrupt people. Many people show off fake happiness on social media, and unfortunately, others start comparing their lives with theirs.
When a celebrity posts something on social media, other people admire it, but some netizens start comparing their life with stars. As a result of this comparison, those netizens begin losing confidence in themselves and thinking that their lives are not worth it. To overcome the dangers of comparison on social media, many countries banned celebrities from showing off their wealth on the internet.
4. The Never-Ending Battle
Have you ever seen people fighting on social media? Be it Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, or anything else. People can see toxic, negative, and dishonoring comments on social media.
It is always better to avoid such controversies because these social media battles never take you to a conclusion, and they never end. Be aware of what post talks about positivity and what contains hate speech, vulgarity, discrimination, racism, and any other negative thing that can make you unhappy.
5. The Forgotten Role
The beauty of social media is that we get in touch with new people worldwide. But never forget that we have some very important roles to play in the real world.
Most youngsters are very obsessed with social media to make new friends every day, but they forget the essential role they have to play in real life. Never do this because it directly impacts your personal life & valuable relationships that you have. Use social media, but you must spend time with the people around you in real life.
Conclusion!
Social media has many positive and good things to offer; focus on them and avoid these mistakes. If you are making any of these mistakes, then to remove the adverse effects of social media, let’s take a social media detox challenge.
Social media is important, but nothing should come at the cost of your mental health, so, social media and mental health should go hand-in-hand. Use social media for learning, awareness, connectivity, and positivity. Limit your internet usage, and find some good resources that serve you positive and good content.
