Be Iron Man Of Your Garden And Look After Your Repulsors

You feel like Iron Man when you enter the garden on weekends with your toolkit. Unfortunately, Iron Man can’t be that powerful without his repulsors (Sorry, Iron Man Fans šŸ˜). Your tools are the equivalent of Iron Man’s repulsors, but how do you maintain them?

Having greens in your home motivates you and surrounds you with positive vibes.

If you are into kitchen gardening, it can add a nutritional crunch to your meals with the added benefit of good vibes and motivation šŸ˜‡.

To be honest, I used to despise gardening because of my uncle, who used to keep the entire family occupied with his vegetable gardening activities. The worst thing was that we kids did it during summer vacation šŸ˜„. We used to think that gardening was simple in the winter, but now I know that it is difficult in all seasonsšŸ˜.

There are numerous tasks to be completed, ranging from selecting the appropriate gardening equipment to cleaning the garden. No matter if you are interested in home gardening such as growing hydroponic plants in indoor gardening, having a gardening terrace on the rooftop, or gardening on a balcony, the problems are almost the same.

Although an advanced gardening toolkit is not required, some gardening tools are beneficial to have even if you garden at home, and it is critical for every gardener to learn how to properly care for his tools.

Why Is It Important To Take Care Of Your Tools?

My interest in gardening began when I saw gardening quotes on one of my friends’ Whatsapp statuses every day. She used to talk about the advantages of organic gardening, and it really inspired me.

As a result of this drive, I now have my own terrace garden full of medicinal plants like lemongrass, stevia, and aloe vera. Throughout my gardening adventures, I’ve learned how critical it is to look after your gardening tools.

It Relates To Your Health!

You use different tools for gardening, and some of them can be hazardous to your health.

Donā€™t you believe it? According to recent research, potting mixes contain a variety of bacteria that can cause a variety of human diseases.

Harmful Bacteria Found In Soil:

  • Nocardia:

Nocardia causes Nocardiosis, which causes infection in our lungs and impacts our overall health.

  • Legionella:

This bacteria causes Legionnairesā€™ disease, which is a kind of pneumonia.

  • Clostridium:

Clostridium is also found in potting mix and it causes Tetanus.

Bacteria could be lurking on your gardening tools. Using gardening gloves may protect you partly, but disinfect the tools before using them and sanitize your hands frequently with an eco-friendly hand sanitizer.

Durability Of Tools

It negatively impacts the durability of gardening tools If you donā€™t take care of them. On the best gardening blogs, it is one of the most frequently given gardening tips.

Cost-effectiveness

Obviously, if your gardening tools are durable, you won’t have to spend as much money on them, making gardening at home more affordable.

Garden Tool Care And Maintenance

Are there any proper measures? Of course, there are numerous gardening tips that specifically address the care and maintenance of garden tools. Here are a few of my personal favorites for making my gardening tools last longer and protecting myself from infections.

Make A Routine

Living away from my family has made it difficult for me to maintain even basic home gardening tools because I am the sole caretaker of my mini microgreens garden, but I’ve developed a daily routine for cleaning and disinfecting my tools after playing with tiny green plants.

Clean & Disinfect

The types of gardening tools range from small hand trowels, weeding tools, and gardening scissors to large indoor plant watering systems.

Following are the basic steps to clean gardening tools:

  • Remove the dirt, soil, and sap from tools using a rag.
  • Using any other sharp tool, try to remove stubborn soil.
  • Water should not be used to clean the tools because it may cause corrosion.
  • Choose an appropriate disinfectant for your garden tools.
  • Use a safe disinfectant and leave it on for a few hours.
  • Keep your tools In a storage box.

Things to keep in mind while cleaning and disinfecting gardening tools:

  • Never soak the tools in water, as they may rust.
  • Applying an alcohol-based disinfectant to metals can cause corrosion.
  • Plants could be harmed by alcohol-based disinfectants.
  • Look for a disinfectant that is safe to use, such as an HOCl-based disinfectant.

Maintenance

Maintaining your tools is also important; follow the steps below to do so:

  • Before you use a tool, make sure it’s in good working order.
  • Get your tools fixed if they are broken.
  • Never use a broken tool because it is dangerous.

Use them, look after them, and grow your garden in a safe, cost-effective, and overall successful way. Donā€™t forget to mention your favorite gardening tool in the comments below!
