Do you fear change?

We always hear people say – ‘change is inevitable,’ ‘change is the only constant,’ but what this change is, and why do we fear it so much?

It’s not wrong to say that change is an indispensable part of life. Some changes might go unnoticeable, while few can turn our lives upside down. Again, some come naturally, whereas others can be termed “self-induced” changes, i.e., the changes we introduce by choice in our lives. Change can come in all shapes and sizes; some messy and intricate, while some blissful and exciting. The exact change might impact different people differently.

Today, I’ll talk about a couple of such changes that many of us might relate to.

  • I graduated as a computer science engineer (I still don’t know why) and joined an IT company. I worked for over ten years with the company and suddenly realized that this is not what I want to do. Really? I thought to myself but then got convinced after battling with my inner self that this is the change I want to embrace. No doubt, I was the harbinger of this change into my life, yet I was the one to be the most freaked out, and I still am!
  • No matter how old I grow, my school years will always be the most memorable element of my life.  Fourteen years in the same building, with the same routine more or less, is not less time and ought to leave a mark on your existence. The final year was the most enjoyable one, thus making the very thought of leaving the school and stepping out horrifying. What choice did we have? The change was undoubtedly inevitable.

Do these situations sound familiar? Maybe yes, maybe not! Ok, then let’s talk about an unquestionably common experience – it might have affected all of us differently. COVID-19 – started in 2019, left a noteworthy mark on 2020, and continues in 2021. Most of us are now accustomed to the new settings, but 2020 was not an easy one. Routines changed, places changed, habits changed, employment criteria changed, and for some, their dreams changed! No schools for kids, no office vehicles on the road, no big queues at cinema entrances, no workout in gyms – no one ever imagined the world as is. Nevertheless, life did not stop, some of us definitely hit a pause button, but sooner or later, we did resume. That is the cycle life puts us in, or we put our lives in!
