Four Important Things To Tell Your Kid About Hygiene
Greetings, parents! Are you still trying hard to teach personal hygiene to your kid? It’s difficult to get your child to understand the importance of health and hygiene, whether he or she is a toddler or an adult adolescent.
I understand that general hygiene tips might not be working for you, so we’ve come up with four very effective cleanliness and hygiene-related activities that will help your child learn things quickly.
1. Hygiene At Different Levels
Hygiene entails more than just following basic tips for washing hands. There are various types of hygiene at different levels, and your kid must be aware of them. Here are some of the most important ones to tell them.
- Food Hygiene
Food is the source of our existence! Food safety and hygiene are some of the most crucial topics to put light on in front of your kid. Give them food safety tips like washing their hands before and after meals, covering food, eating fresh, using clean dishes and spoons, and so on.
- Bathing Hygiene
Tell them why it’s important to take a bath every day and what the proper bathing hygiene practices are. Tell them how to clean the bathtub before using it, get proper lukewarm water, use a washcloth or loofah to clean body parts, and so on.
- Hand Hygiene
One of the most important is hand washing, which is the most important task in personal hygiene because germs are found more on hands. Teach your kid about proper handwashing techniques and how to use hand sanitizer.
- Toilet Hygiene
In toilets, hygienic and sanitation practices are critical. Your kid must be aware of how to use a toilet commode, washbasin, hand dryer, etc. Tell them how to clean the toilet, taps, and jet spray before and after each use, and also add on by telling your kid how to disinfect high touchpoints in a toilet.
- Hair & Nail Hygiene
Hair, nails, and skin can become breeding grounds for a variety of germs and viruses, so keeping your hair and nails clean is essential. Tell them how to wash hair with shampoo, dry them, and then apply conditioner and oil on it.
- Oral Hygiene
When it comes to oral hygiene tips, brushing isn’t the only thing to consider. Give advanced dental hygiene tips to your kid like using floss and tongue cleaner for deep cleaning and rinsing the mouth after every meal.
- Cough & Sneeze Hygiene
Teach your child how to take precautions when coughing or sneezing. Tell them to use a handkerchief or cover their face with an elbow while coughing or sneezing.
- Surrounding Hygiene
Environmental hygiene is important not only because it keeps germs out of your environment, but also gives you a sense of mental calm. Disinfection must be a part of your environmental cleaning process. If you ask for sleep hygiene tips then environmental hygiene is crucial because it calms your mind and helps you get a deep sleep.
2. Hygiene Friendly Stuff
There are many things that can assist your child in keeping themselves and their environment clean and safe. Following are some of these things that kids must keep with themself all the time.
- Handkerchief
This single piece of cloth is not just to wipe your hands, but it can be used to cover the face during cough and sneeze. It is a must to keep with you because every restroom out there doesn’t have a hand dryer or tissues.
- Sanitizer
A pocket-friendly sanitizer will help your kid in hand sanitizing along with sanitizing daily use items, highly touched points, etc.
- Mask
Masks became a part of our lives during the pandemic, and we must continue using them. To avoid inhaling virus-carrying aerosols and polluted air, wear a mask.
3. Relate Hygiene With Success
After telling your kid about different types of hygiene and hygiene-friendly stuff, you need to push the importance of hygiene in their subconscious mind. Make an effort to connect hygiene to overall life success. Explain to them how successful people take care of their hygiene and how leading a hygienic lifestyle allows you to live life fearlessly and in an orderly fashion, which ultimately leads to success.
4. The Consequences
I’m referring to the negative consequences that can occur when hygiene practices are disregarded. To be aware of kids’ personal hygiene and to enable them to develop a proper hygiene routine, you need to show them the consequences. Show some recent incidents or case studies that demonstrate the negative consequences of not practicing good hygiene.
Some Useful Tips For You
Aside from the four items listed above, there are a few pointers to keep in mind.
They are not about good hygiene tips but they will help you shape your kids’ minds in terms of hygiene.
- Don’t Be Angry
Never be angry about your kids’ mistakes, because kids learn from mistakes.
- A Reward System
Start a reward system for your kid to keep him/her motivated for good hygiene habits.
- Make It Easy For Them
Don’t confuse them with complex practices, keep everything simplified for them.
- Activities & Games
Never tell them anything directly, roll the message (lesson) in some games or fun activities.
Let Them Decide On Their Own…
These days kids are smarter as compared to our generation, never force them in any way. Tell them the types of hygiene, hygiene products, the value of hygiene, and consequences of not following hygiene habits, after that leave it on your kids’ wisdom let them decide upon it.
I’m sure after getting such guidance the new generation of kids will find a plethora of ways to maintain proper hygiene for them. How smart is your kid in terms of hygiene? Share his/her good habits with us!
